Running/Jogging

Running is described as 'The fastest means for an animal to travel on foot', and jogging is defined as 'A form of trotting or running at a slow or leisurely pace'.

Jogging is more strenuous than walking because it requires more muscle to go faster, bounce up-and-down, breathe deeper, and balance. Running requires more effort than jogging, and is more intense. Running requires increased stamina to go faster, and endurance to go for longer periods of time.

So which is better? Well that depends on your personal fitness goals. Both jogging and running are great forms of exercise and will help you lose weight, decrease blood pressure, build bones.

This now presents a different question. Which is better? Running or jogging on the street or on a treadmill in the gym? Treadmills do absorb some of the shock that would normally be absorbed by your knees and joints, but something has to be said for running or jogging in the early morning and late evening when the air is crisp and fresh. If you do go running or jogging outdoors, then asphalt surfaces are kinder to your knees than concrete, as asphalt absorbs more shock than concrete. Treadmills don't account for wind variance and natural elements, which can be a good thing or a bad thing. It is suggested that when running or jogging on a treadmill that you increase the incline by approximately 1.0 to account for wind resistance.

Both running and jogging are considered great cardio and aerobic exercise that work your muscles and are good for your heart, lungs, and bones.
